Penn State’s University Museum Consortium is hosting a public reception to celebrate "Eclectic Collections," a collaborative exhibit between University museums and galleries.
The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) Museum and Art Gallery is one of 10 small museums recently selected to participate in the American Alliance of Museums’ pilot season of its new Small Museums Accreditation Academy.
The EMS Musuem & Art Gallery's Advisory Board members are drawn from the faculty, staff, alumni, and students of the college and the University, as well as local and regional educators, learners, and entrepreneurs.
The EMS Musuem & Art Gallery currently has a director, assistant director, and an adjunct curator of collections. Occassionally, there will be an interns or volunteers on staff.
The Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum & Art Gallery's 2018-2023 Strategic Institutional Plan is based upon consideration of the mission of the museum and the needs of the museum's primary constituents – the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS), as well as the university community as a whole, local K-12 students and teachers, and regional learners of all ages and backgrounds.
We have outlined five major goals comprised of incremental goals that we strive to fulfill during the five-year timeline. The work required, parties responsible, resources required, timeframes proposed, and evaluation criteria related to fulfilling these goals are detailed in the accompanying document (Appendix A). While the objectives of these goals are fixed, the methods and conditions to attain them may transition over time.
The EMS Museum & Art Gallery has had many successes from 2004 to now. It is important that an institution recognizes and celebrates its successes. The list of accomplishments is truly impressive but we cannot rest on these laurels and we must move forward to reach the next level of accomplishments. Please review the following list of highlights and accomplishments realized since 2004.
The primary activity for the EMS Museum & Art Gallery this past year has been finalizing the core documents required for accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the primary professional organization for museums in North America.
